It's always a treat to find a movie that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the final frame. "Love, Sex Aur Dhokha" is just such a film. It starts with an intriguing premise: three friends and their plans to participate in an art festival for young adults and then proceed on to Mumbai, where they hope to achieve fame and fortune. Supposedly these friends will do anything for each other out of love, yet as events progress we learn that this is not so true after all. Because the characters are friends, each action that they take toward achieving their dreams is regarded by them as something that will help the others. It's what friends do for each other, right? The problem, however, is that their individual schemes often end up thwarting the plans of others. As a result, what starts out as a fun romp to achieve fame ends in disillusionment. The film opens with our three heroes- Aditya (Adil Hussain), Kunal (Kunaal Roy Kapur) and Farhan (Farhan Akhtar)- about to participate in an art contest where they hope to win some serious prizes. They plan to use the money to go to Bombay, where they will become famous actors. The prize money is deposited for safekeeping in the bank by Kunal, who claims that his father is absconding. The contest requires that the participants spend two nights at a special camp that is open only during the contest. The three friends are locked up together in a cabin and each of them realizes that this could be a great opportunity for them to realize their dreams of becoming a big time actor. They hatch a plan where one of them will get selected as an extra in a film being shot nearby while another will get to play himself in an Indian adaptation of Shakespeare's "Othello". The third person will get the job of being the "hero" in an ad for Lufthansa airlines. However, when two of them get their wishes fulfilled, the third is left high and dry. But his disappointment doesn't last long because he soon finds out that his notoriety as a lover has spread to the point that it has attracted the attention of an attractive young woman, who sees him as her ticket to fame and fortune. Each character in this movie is quite interesting. Aditya's character is especially intriguing because he desperately wants to be famous but there are some underlying issues in his life which he must deal with before becoming really successful. Kunal, the film poster artist, has some very interesting ideas of how his life will be once he achieves success. Farhan, the only one of the three who will get to act in front of the camera is also interesting because his character is not self-absorbed like Kunal's. Instead he wants fame only because he thinks that this will help him achieve his true dream of becoming an actor and winning awards for doing something that he loves. Yet this ambition is what ultimately brings him crashing down to earth when he realizes that no matter how good an actor one may be, success in the film industry depends on so much more than talent alone. cfa1e77820
